MULANJE (Sergio Genti, Malawi NewsNow) – Ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) former regional governor Mr Noel Masangwi and former minister Mrs Patricia Kaliati have rejected accusation by President Peter Mutharika, saying they are not frustrated tenderpreneurs.
Masangwi and Kaliati are in the group calling itself the Chilima Movement promoting Vice-President Saulos Chilima, 45, to be president come 2019 because Mutharika is a passive ruler who shuns his advisors and DPP national governing council in preference for a clique of opportunists.
President Mutharika said those calling him inept not to run for second term are “disgruntled people ”.
He revealed how he may have offered a contract to Masangwi to construct a three-storey office building underway at Thyolo District Council.
“Masangwi is building that thing at K2.5 billion. We gave him that contract although he is insulting us that we don’t give him contracts,” said Mutharika.
But Masangwi and Kaliati said the 79-year-Old Mutharika is running away from the truth, saying he is clueless and too old to seek re-election.
Kaliati said only a clueless leader can put foundation stone to relaunch a road construction project.
She was referring the relaunching Lirangwe-Chingale-Machinga road which the former president Joyce Banda launched the construction of the 62-kilometre road in April 2014 .
