LILONGWE (Malawi NewsNow) –Standard Bank Malawi celebrated this year’s International Women’s Day with a message of being bold for change and a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
“Let’s support our specific agenda as women and with a change of altitude to achieve our goals in life,” said Vice Chancellor for Malawi University of Science and Technology Professor Address Malata during the commemoration of International Women’s Day Tea Party organised by Standard Bank in Lilongwe.
She said there is need of collective efforts for all women’s of all works of life to advocate for gender parity.
“Time is now for the society to value women and men’s contributions equally,” the professor stressed.
“Rise up, Love yourself first, don’t look down upon yourself and speed up the action to accelerate in life,” Malata pointed out.
South African High Commissioner to Malawi Thenjiwe Mtintso said the world is changing hence the need for women to be economically and socially empowered.
“It is wrong to deny women rights in a society, it holds them back not to achieve their benefits of opportunities”, Mtintso said.
Standard Bank Chief Financial Officer Temwani Simwaka said as a Bank, they are doing all it can to promote women.
International Women Day is commemorated globally and provides opportunities to celebrate women’s achievements in leadership, academic, Business, civil rights as well as political professionals.
The commemorates the movement for women rights and this year’s theme is #Be Bold For Change.
