Kabwila – MCP MP who was removed as spokesperson

LILONGWE (Tamanda Mwale, Malawi NewsNow) –Malawi Congress Party’s (MCP) Deputy Secretary General, Eisenhower Mkaka has said Salima North West Member of Parliament, Jessie Kabwila was not elected as party spokesperson through a convention but was rather appointed by the party president, Rev Prof Lazarus Chakwera, hence can be removed by the same appointing authority.

Kabwila faulted the MCP of flouting the party’s constitution by not reinstating her to the position of Publicity Secretary which she argues that she got at the party’s convention hence only a convention should decide to remove her.

“I was chosen through a convention process and the only way I can be removed is through a convention process,” said Kabwila.

However, Mkaka said: “At which convention was Kabwila elected? If anything, she is the one who does not understand the rules. It was the party president who selected her. As of now, the party is still searching for a person who can take up the position of Publicity Secretary. We are not breaking any rules.”

MCP National Executive Committee, chaired by Chakwera disciplined Kabwila, Chatinkha Chidzanja Nkhoma, Joseph Njobvuyalema, Azam Mwale and Dennis Nathumba on allegations that they were causing divisions within the party’s ranks.
