BLANTYRE (Sergio Genti, Malawi NewsNow)- Graft busting body, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) have arrested two more people in the infamous passportgate, bringing to seven the number of thode arrested in the suspicious naturalisation of foreigners.
ACB spokesperson Egritta Ndala said her organisation on Monday arrested a Rwandese and a Malawian in connection with the scam which happened between 2012 and 2014 during the Joyce Banda administration.
The Rwandese arrested is Esiri Kubwimana and the Malawian is Hendrix Laha.
Laha has since been charged with an offence of aiding public officers abuse their office whilst the Rwandese has been charged with an offence of giving false information to a public officer.
The seven arrested in this passportgate include People’s Party acting president Uladi Mussa whom the state accuses of suspiciously naturalising 50 foreigners when he was Home Affairs minister and former chief immigration officer Hudson Mankhwala.
Mussa and Mankhwala denies any wrong doing and People’s Party accuses the ruling Democratic Progressive Party of political persecution.
