LILONGWE (Malawi NewsNow) –Director of Planning and Development,] for Ntchisi district Mr Obed Mwalughali and proprietor of Kalibu Investment Mr Isaac Malenga are facing charges on corrupt practices during procurement of materials, according to Anti Corurption Bureau (ACB)
In a statement from ACB, the bureau indicated that Director of Planning and Development for Ntchisi awarded a contract without following procedures and he was arrested on December 20, 2016.
“The Anti- Corruption Bureau instituted investigations and established that the Director of Planning and Development awarded a contract worth K4, 881,490.00 of Local Development Funds for the construction of a teacher’s house at Kalira 1 Primary School in Ntchisi without following procedures,” reads the statement.
Meanwhile Mwalughali and Malenga are likely to be charged with misuse of public office, aiding and abetting a public officer to abuse a public office, conspiracy to defraud, forgery and fraud contrary to Sections 25B (1), 35 and 323 of the Corrupt Practices Act and Penal Code respectively.
Similarly On January 26, 2017, Village Headman Alufandika and The Chairman of the Village Development Committee Rashid Mamani from Nsanje were also arrested for including the ghost workers on the list of villagers to work on a project to construct a canal from the Shire River to Tikondane Irrigation Scheme.
These were taken to court on 27th January where they were charged with forgery, uttering a false document, theft and abuse of office and they will appear in Court on February 13 and 15, 2017 for trial.
