South Africa-based artist dates Malawi

BLANTYRE (Malawi NewsNow)—Blantyre music fans are expected to be treated to a delicious concert on February 12 by South Africa-based violinist and musician, Lucent Gamphani Shaba.

The 23-year-old director of Lucent Nukas String Studio, which is situated in Rosebank, Johannesburg, South Africa, said that he has decided to temporarily stop offering music theory and stringed instrument lessons at his studio to perform to a live audience.

“I have organised a pop and R&B concert in Blantyre on February 12. The aim of the event is to expose my talent and my friends’ talent to the Malawian people. It is important that Malawians should appreciate our music,” Shaba said according to Daily Times.

He will be accompanied by a string quartet called Black Canon, as well as a pianist called Simion.

The artist added that he wants to use the concert to dispel some notions about lack of dancing antics at classic music concerts.

“Most people think that it is impossible to dance to classic music but that is not the case with us. We promise to make people dance at the concert. For your information, trending and popular love songs such as the compositions of Justin Bieber, John Legend, Pharel Williams, Adele, Ed Sheeran have been rearranged, in terms of instruments, by Lucent Shaba and other great music arrangers, for the pleasure of Malawians.

“It is music for all ages. The audience will also listen to African compositions of the early 1980s and modern African songs,” Shaba said.

The concert is slated for MPC Hall at Chichiri in Blantyre.
