HARARE (Malawi NewsNow)-Malawi are out of the African Cup of Nations 2017 qualification campaign following their 3-0 defeat to Zimbabwe at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The Flames conceded their first goal in the 14 minute into the game after goalkeeper Charles Swini brought down charging Knowledge Musona in the box and converted from the spot kick.

16 minutes later Sundowns FC forward Khama Billiat increased the tally and the Warriors led 2-0 at the interval.

Coach Ernest Mtawali made several changes in the second half, introducing Mecium Mhone (who was later substituted for Muhammad Sulumba) and Gabadihno Mhango, but the Flames failed to utilize the few chances they created.

Chiukepo Msowoya could have pulled one back in the 70th minute but wasted a good as his shot was blocked in the box.

Two minutes to go, Cuthbert Malajira killed the game with the Warriors’ third goal which booked them a place at the Afcon finals in Gabon next year with 11 points.

The Flames remain rooted at the bottom of Group L with two points from five games.

In another Group L match played on Sunday, Swaziland beat Guinea 1-0 in Mbabane.
