LILONGWE (Malawi NewsNow)- Commercial bank, Standard Bank has pumped in K40 million into the Global Fund to fight malaria in Malawi.
The bank’s chief executive officer Mr Andrew Mashanda said it is only a healthy nation that can bank with the bank.
Malawi will access the money for the next three years.
“We are happy that Malawi is the first country to sign the MOU (Memorandum of Understanding), we will be going to other countries very soon,” he said.
The donation came as Malawi commemorated the World Malaria Day.
“What we are requesting is that the money should be used effectively,” he said.
Malaria attacks about six million Malawians every year in a population of 17 million people most of them children and pregnant women.
The government is distributing mosquito nets to vulnerable people across the country in a bid to stop the spread of malaria.
