ArrestedDEDZA (Knowledge Chiwambo, Malawi NewsNow) –A head teacher for a Dedza CCAP secondary school, Mr Gilbert Phiri, is under police custody for misappropriating over K 3.7 million, Dedza police deputy publicist Cassim Manda has confirmed.

Manda said that the 33 year old Phiri who comes from Kafa village in the area of chief  Mwanza in Salima district, monopolised any school businesses despite that there is a bursar and all these were happening without knowledge of school development committee.

“On March 30, 2016, the school committee conducted an audit and it was that time when the committees discovered that, gigantic amount of money about three million seven hundred fifty seven thousand kwacha (3,757,000.00.) was missing .

“When he was asked about the missing money, he told the committee that he deposited the money into Matachi FMB factory account and he showed them the some deposit slips, but when the committee members went to meet Matachi officials in Lilongwe for verification, it was discovered that it was all fake and the matter  was reported to Dedza police where Phiri was later arrested,” said Manda.

Matachi Factory is where the school manufactures uniform for its students

Although Phiri admitted the offence the police are yet to recover the stolen money.

Manda has said that Phiri  will soon appear before the court to answer two charges of  forgery  contrary to section 353 sub section d paragraph (i)  and Theft by servant contrary to section 286 of penal code.
