LILONGWE (Papius Liwonde, Malawi NewsNow)- President Peter Mutharika is angry with popular Nigerian televangelist, Prophet T. B. Joshua and leader of his church in Malawi, Pastor Patricia Mkandawire after his request for prayer to take away a curse of death was not received favourably by the Lagos-based Prophet.
Prophet T.B Joshua is reportedly prophesized the death of a certain Southern Africa leader would not finish their term in office and die before April 30 2016 which some people interpreted that the prophecy was meant for Malawi President Mutharika or Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe.
Following the prophecy, Mutharika who is reportedly in falling health, had asked his aid on religion affairs, Apostle Timothy Khoviwa to approach Pastor Mkandawire and take a plea of prayer for Mutharika to be saved from the curse of death.
However, Mkandawire reported that Prophet Joshua wanted to “cast demons” in Mutharika at Synagogue Church of All Nation (SCOAN) in Lagos.
He also warned the prophecy was still hovering around a southern African leader.
In an angry response that he has serious health issues and was dying, Mutharika on Saturday attacked the Nigerian Prophet and his Malawian church leader.
‘Let me tell you TB Joshua and your sister with your evil deeds will fail not what you did in 2012 (for prophesising the death of his brother-Bingu Wa Mutharika) this time around will not happen,” he said.
In 2012, Joshua reportedly predicted the death of a president of an unnamed southern African country.
Mutharika’s brother, Bingu, who was president at the time, did die within the predicted timeframe, giving the prophesy strong currency in Malawi.
He also rebuked Prophet T.B. Joshua of Nigeria for prophesying deaths of African leaders when he could not foretell the tragedy that struck his building which killed hundreds of his followers.
‘“Why did he not foretell this tragedy? I am here as a president up to 2024. And in 2029-the time my term expires I will campaign for a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate’,” said Mutharika.
The 76-year-old Mutharika hitting directly at TB Joshua described the Lagos-based Prophet as an unscrupulous individual, who raises money through false prophecies.
Mutharika came to power in 2014 after defeating Joyce Banda. Banda, who succeeded Bingu Mutharika, made several visits to the Nigerian headquarters of Joshua’s church and once described the evangelist as her “spiritual father”.
The Malawi President also vowed that he will never step down despite mounting pressure from the opposition for him to do so.
Said the President: “I will never step down. Those calling for my resignation are just wasting their time. I cannot step down. No! No! No!”
Opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP), People’s Party (PP) and Alliance for Democracy (Aford) are calling for the resignation of Mutharika, whom they accuse of failing to steer the nation out of social and economic hardships.
Delegates to the Fifth All-Inclusive Public Affairs Committee (PAC) Meeting held in Blantyre last month also asked the President to resign, saying the woes currently haunting the nation were enough evidence that his government had failed.
Pressure is daily mounting on Mutharika to fix the social-economic ills currently Malawians encountering which include maize crisis insufficient of medical and drugs in public hospitals high inflation and falling of the Malawi Kwacha which has resulted into skyrocketing prices of goods and services.
