LILONGWE (Malawi NewsNow) -Chibuku imbibers in Lilongwe are expected to go for a dry throat after the Malawi Bureau of Standards on Thursday closed down the opaque beer factory at Kanengo in Lilongwe due to sanitation problems.
Malawi Bureau of Standards managing director David Chokazinga confirmed the closure of the factory saying it would be reopened after all sanitation woes have been dealt with.
“We cannot give time frame on when we will open the factory. It is up to management of Chibuku to work with speed on the sanitation problems. AS soon as they are ready, we will go back there to inspect and decide whether to reopen or not,” he said.
This is the first time in recent memory that the bureau has closed down the Chibuku factory on sanitation reasons.
Most imbibers now go for the opaque beer because is cheaper as it sells at K200 a packet as opposed to Carlsberg which sells at K500 in average bottle stores.
Malawi is facing acute economic problems that has not spared the brewery industry.
