ZOMBA (Papius Liwonde, Malawi NewsNow) – Close to 20 prison families have spent Christmas in prison primary school classroom after heavy rains coupled with high speed wind blew off their official houses at Zomba Maximum Prison.
Smart Maliro, spokesman for Prisons in Malawi said some officials have been allocated unfinished houses within the prison campus.
Some of the prison officials recounted how they lost their hard earned property like television sets and radios during the heavy down poor.
Maliro however could not say if the primary school would open as scheduled on January 3, 2016 following the occupation of the classrooms by the displaced prison officials.
Zomba Central MP Patricia Kainga Nangozo said the heavy rains have so far affected 340 people in her constituency and asked for well wishers to help out.
