LILONGWE (Papius Liwonde, Malawi NewsNow)— Civo Service United FC stunned former reigning champions of the Standard Bank cup – the Mighty Be Forward Wanderers by beating them 1 goal to nil before a jam packed Civo Stadium in Malawi’s capital Lilongwe on Sunday to win the trophy.
The lone goal came from striker Nelson Kangunje in the 88th minute and the Civil Servants’ team cemented their long overdue victory by jealously defending their goal to the last whistle.
Wanderers were a shadow of the side that performed so impressively to win the Carlsberg Cup.
As expected, the victory sent the Civo United fans into wild jubilation typical of a team revamping from victory deficiency.
Civo United has not been performing well in the TNM super league but they kept focusing and eventually started winning matches.
The Civil Servants season can now be judged as a success, after winning a trophy as they negotiated their way to the finals through by beating football power house in the country, Big Bullets.
