LILONGWE (Muchanakhwaye Khwepeya, Malawi NewsNow ) –Malawi’s President, Peter Mutharika who is adamant to remain in the seat of power up to the expiry of his term in 2019 rebuffing calls by Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) which asked him to resign if he cannot solve the economic problems Malawi is facing, has cancelled his scheduled trip to India where he was expected to attend the Third-India Africa Forum Summit(IAFS III) .
The CSOs alled for Mutharika’s resignation , accusing him of failing to manage the country’s economy and globe-trotting .
Mutharika said he was not going to heed the calls for resignation.
But the President is acting to CSO’s demands as seen by the cancellation of the India trip.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr George Chaponda, is expected to represent Mutharika at the Inda-Africa summit which is scheduled for October 26-29 2015.
Chaponda disclosed that four ministers that include himself, ministers of Finance and Economic Planning, Goodall Gondwe, Trade and Industry, Joseph Mwanamvekha, Agriculture and Irrigation, Allan Chiyembekeza, and some officials from the ministries are among the delegates expected to attend the summit.
Mutharika government is also enhancing broad-based dialogue among stakeholders.
The Africa –India Summit will be held under the theme “Partners in progress: Towards a dynamic and transformative development agenda”
