LILONGWE (Malawi NewsNow) –Mighty Be Forward Wanderers and Super League rookies Dedza Young Soccer have qualified for the quarter-finals of the Standard Bank Knockout Cup.
Wanderers on Thursday booted out Mafco FC, at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe through post-match penalties.
Mafco were reduced to 10 men on 39 minutes, when Zomba based Fifa referee Denis Ngulube gave marching orders to defender Paul Ndlovu for a second bookable offence.
But the soldiers were resilient and managed to hold Wanderers up to post-match spot kicks.
Wanderers converted kicks except Rafik Mussa whose shot hit the post.
Goalkeeper Jailos Kapalamula, Maurice Chiumia and Paul Phiri scored for Mafco but Osward Nkagula had his weak shot saved by Chipuwa.
Captain Zasha Mnong’oneza missed Mafco’s last kick effectivelt giving Wanderers a 4-3 win.
On Wednesday Dedza Young Soccer qualified for the quarter-finals after beating Kamuzu Barracks 10-9 on post-match penalties.
This was after the regulation time failed to produce a winner as the two teams fought out a two-all draw at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
Hazwell Gamphani, Matthews Salirana, Chisomo Mpachika, Chisomo Gillion, Amadu Makawa, George Mponda, Fletcher Banda, Wilson Magombo, Wachimwa Sadik and Leonard Matiasi were all on target for Dedza.
World Nkuliwa, Kelvin Malikebu, Mustapha Hussein, Harvey Nkacha, Julius Mkwinja, Pilirani Makupe, Dave Banda, Oscar Chapitapansi and Samson Chiponda converted for KB while Victor Nangwale missed his.
Dedza will now face Civo United in the quarter-finals.
