BLANTYRE (Malawi NewsNow) — Polytechnic College of the University of Malawi has been closed due to ‘disturbances’ on Wednesday as student clashed with Malawi Police over delayed allowances.
Students asked to leave campus by 8am Thursday.
On Wednesday, Police fired tear gas to disperse students blocking a major Masauko Chipembere Highway at Ginnery Corner.
Polytechnic management says the closure is ‘until further notice’.
Rogers Nyirongo, secretary general for Polytechnic Students Union (PSU) said the demonstration was a reaction to government’s failure to provide them with fees loan and allowances.
