Wanderers reach Carlsberg finals

LILONGWE (Malawi NewsNow ) —Mighty Be Forward Wanderers, who were the inaugural Carlsberg Cup champions in 2000 when they beat Bullets 2-1 in the finals, on Sunday eliminated Moyale who were the champions in 2001 with a narrow 1-0 win at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

It was Victor Nyirenda who the only goal of the game that was so vital .

He scored in the 31st minute when Ted Sumani’s cross caught Moyale’s defence napping allowing Nyirenda to head home from a close range, 1-0.

Wanderers will now face their fierce rival Bullets FC who reached the finals on Saturday after a comfortable 3-0 victory over Silver Strikers at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Bullets, who are the defending champions and the only side unbeaten in competitive matches this season, have won the Cup twice, in 2002 and last year.

They are the only team to reach the Cup’s finals four times.
