NTCHEU (Blessings Kang’ombe, Malawi NewsNow) – Police in Malawi’s central region district of Ntcheu have launched a man hunt for a 32 year old man suspected to have murdered a 41 year old woman in the district.
The deceased has been identified as Mrs. Enelesi Yotamu of Malanda village, Senior Chief Makwangwala and suspect as Mr. Msomba Mandala of Mtawira village Traditional Authority (T/A) Chakhumbira both in Ntcheu district respectively.
According to Ntcheu police deputy spokesperson Sergeant Hastings Chigalu, the deceased met his fate last week Saturday after a quarrel broke with the suspect at a local drinking spree in the
“It is allegedly that the deceased fall on suspects barbeque stand as he was selling ‘Kanyenya’ a popular delicacy among imbibers hence a disagreement broke between the two.”
Sergeant Chigalu further said despite people who separated the two, the suspect later disappeared at the drinking spree and followed the deceased to her house where he hit her with a hard wood on his head.
The deceased became unconscious since she fainted till Sunday when relatives reported the matter to police who took him to the hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
An autopsy at Ntcheu district hospital reveals that the deceased died due to head injuries.
Meanwhile, the suspect who is still at large once apprehended will answer murder charges which is contrary to section 209 of the penal code and attracts life jail term if convicted.
