ZOMBA (Malawi NewsNow ) —Standard Bank has given convicted businessman and former People’s Party (PP) national governing council (NGC) member Mr Oswald Lutepo, cheque images that show people who withdrew money from his account under his two companies.

The images identify beneficiaries from his bank account up to April 2013.

According to Mr Oswald Mtupila, lawyer for Luetpo, the images show people that have been cashing money apart from his client.

Mtupila says he will be meeting Lutepo over the weekend to work out the matter ahead of the next court appearance on August 31st.

Lutepo was convicted on his own plea and is expected to receive his punishment for money laundering and theft, after an independent assessor evaluate his properties lined up for confiscation.

The court will, however, proceed to sentence Lutepo after the assessment before confiscation of his property and benefits obtained from the proceeds of money laundering and defrauding government between April and October 2013, presiding judge Redson Kapindu ruled.

Matemba said the State is interested to recover the property that Lutepo stole from government s well as see the convict punished accordingly for his crimes.

Lutepo, who is consigned to a wheel chair, remains remanded to prison awaiting his sentence.
