BLANTYRE (Malawi NewsNow)- Azam Tigers posses the belief to mount a serious challenge to the 2015 TNM Super League title, the club coach Gerald Phiri and his manger Robin Alufandika have said.
Alufandika said Tigers, who are on second position, are now certainly title contenders, sending a warning to league leaders and champions Big Bullets to mind the gap with them.
“Allow me to send a warning to defending champions Big Bullets and all the clubs that Kau Kau boys are playing to win the tittle and we will be crowned champions this season.
“Of cause it is a long way to go, but as you can see the race is still open, all what is needed is to concentrate and I can assure you we will maintain that fighting spirit come second round. said Alufandika.
Tigers are trailing behind Bullets with five points difference on a second place having collected 26 points from 14 games followed by Mighty Be Forward Wanderers who have same points but Tigers have a better score margin.
Tigers mentor Gerald Phiri said self-belief has been Tigers’ secret to building a formidable side and achieving good results.
“When a team loses key players many say it’s a downfall, but for us it was a stepping stone. We had to move on.” Phiri was quoted by the local media.
Big Bullets are topping the table with 32 points from 14 games whereas Peter Mponda’s Fisd Wizards are anchoring the table with 7 points after playing 12 games, they are expected to face Kamuzu Barracks on Saturday at Civo Stadium before they wind up their first round against Civo United next day on the same venue.
