MZIMBA (Malawi Newsnow)-Mzimba Heritage Association (MHA) plans to hold fundraising dinner for  uMthetho cultural festival for the Ngoni which will take place on August 8, 2015 at the foot of Hora Mountain in the district..

During the event at the Mountain, the Ngoni showcase their rich cultural heritage and perform traditional dances including Ingoma among others.

Barnet Phiri, MHA Fundraising Dinner’s Chairperson  said the fundraising dinner which slated for July 24, 2015 in the capital Lilongwe aims at sourcing part of funds worth MK30 million meant to hold the annual uMuthetho ceremony which is characterized by three days of traditional dances a head of the main event.

“The uniqueness of this year’s uMthetho ceremony is the inclusion of other cultural groups, Malawians living outside the country including the head of state, President Peter Mutharika who will be part of the occasion.

“With such caliber of individual gracing the event, more resources are needed to meet the budget which is pegged at MK30 million. This will be possible with variety of activities like the fundraising dinner which has been slated for July 24, 2015 at Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the capital Lilongwe which will be presided over by Inkosi ya Makhosi M’bwelwa V.

“The fundraising dinner is open to Malawians supporting the event by making direct contributions in cash or kind, buying tables and Ngoni traditional regalia at the dinner or through our secretariat as entry ticket to fundraising is at MK30, 000, Deluxe table at MK300,000 while Platinum table is MK500,000 as Kambuku Band and Ingoma by Impi will mesmerize the dinner”, said Phiri.

Mzimba Heritage Association was established in 2000 to preserve and promote the cultural values and customs of the Ngoni of Mzimba and Msakambewa in Dowa districts such that the grouping has been organizing the uMuthetho cultural festival annually at Hora Mountain since 2007.
